Build trust and reduce risk

Document Verification helps organisations confidently validate an individual's identity before employment, onboarding, registration, or service delivery.

By verifying identity information directly against issuing authorities, Organisations can:

• Detect fraudulent or altered identity documents
• Reduce the risk of identity theft and impersonation
• Strengthen hiring and onboarding processes
• Support Know Your Customer (KYC) and compliance requirements
• Protect vulnerable people, sensitive information, and organisational assets

Simple, secure and efficient

The verification process is designed to be fast, accurate, and privacy-focused.

Document details are submitted through the CrimCheck platform and securely checked against the relevant issuing authority. A clear verification outcome is then returned, providing confidence that the document is valid and matches the individual's details.

Document Verification is commonly used by organisations seeking greater assurance when verifying identity, including:

• Employers onboarding staff, contractors, and volunteers
• Financial services and fintech organisations
• Healthcare, aged care, and disability service providers

Frequently asked questions

Do I need to do anything special to prepare my documents for verification?

Just make sure your documents are current and the photos or scans you upload are clear and easy to read. Take photos in good lighting, make sure all four corners of the document are visible, and check that text isn't blurry or cut off. You'll need to provide one commencement document (like a birth certificate or passport), one primary use document (like a driver's licence), and one secondary document (like a Medicare card). Our system will guide you through exactly what's needed when you start your application. Refer to our Identity Types Page for more detailed information.

How long does document verification take?

The actual verification through IDMatch happens in seconds. Once you've uploaded your documents through our secure portal, the system checks them against government databases almost instantly. If everything matches up, your identity is confirmed and your police check application moves straight through to processing. Most people receive their police check results within 1-2 business days from the time they submit their application.

What happens if my documents can't be verified electronically?

If IDMatch can't verify your documents electronically (which can happen with older documents, name changes, or documents from certain issuing authorities), we'll let you know straight away and arrange an alternative verification method. This usually means getting your documents certified by an authorised person like a Justice of the Peace, Police Officer, or registered Teacher. While this takes a bit longer, it's still straightforward and we'll guide you through exactly what you need to do.

Is my information kept secure during the verification process?

Yes. IDMatch uses bank-level encryption and only shares the minimum information needed to confirm your identity. Your document details are checked against government databases, but the full documents themselves aren't stored or shared. CrimCheck is ACIC accredited and follows strict privacy standards, which means your personal information is handled securely and confidentially at every step. We don't keep copies of your identity documents once your check is complete.

What documents can be verified through IDMatch?

IDMatch can verify most common Australian identity documents including current and recently expired passports, driver's licences, birth certificates, citizenship certificates, Medicare cards, and ImmiCards. The system checks these against official government databases to confirm they're genuine and that the details match what's on record. Different document types are verified through different Government sources, like State Transport Departments for Licences or the Department of Home Affairs for passports and visas.
